Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church

For where two or three have gathered together in My name, THERE I AM IN THEIR MIDST

Holy Trinity was founded in 1892 by Slovak immigrants seeking a place for them and their families to hear and learn the pure Word of God. The congregation worshipped in the basement of the Presbyterian Church at 3rd and Monroe Streets in Passaic until they obtained the property on Palisade Avenue where the church stands today. Sitting atop Belmont Hill with a tower and steeple that reaches 105 feet into the sky, the recently restored church building is a landmark in the city of Garfield and surrounding communities. Through the years, the church has served as the center of spiritual and community life for people. Most members lived in the several blocks surrounding the church. To meet the needs of a growing community, the congregation constructed a Parish House and school building on Summit Avenue (behind the church). Trinity Lutheran School provided a solid Christian education for children from 1934-1982. Trinity Lutheran Preschool operated until 1999. Our Sunday School and Vacation Bible Schools continue our ministry to children. God has blessed Holy Trinity over the years with faithful, caring pastors, church leaders and dedicated laypeople. Over thirty sons and daughters of the congregation have become pastors and teachers in the Lord's service. Many of our members have been active in the community, serving the city of Garfield.
