What Lutherans believe

Martin Luther

As Lutherans we strictly adhere to the Book of Concord of 1580, which consists of the Ecumenical Creeds (Apostle's, Nicene and Athanasian), Augsburg Confession, the Apology of the Augsburg Confession, the Smalcald Articles, the Treatise on the Power and Primacy of the Pope, Luther's Small and Large Catechisms, and the Formula of Concord.

The Lutheran confession may be summed up by the following:

Grace Alone- Through His grace, God has given us salvation through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, His Son; a gift freely given, there is nothing we can do to earn it.

Faith Alone- It is faith which receives, comprehends, and clings to this salvation. Faith in our savior not a choice we make, but it, too, is a gift of God.

Word Alone- All that we must know about the Triune God is revealed to us in the Bible, which, is not the word of man but the Word of God. The human authors were inspired by the Holy Spirit to write the Word of God.

Christ Alone - All that is necessary to please God and to win salvation has been accomplished by Jesus Christ, begotten of God in eternity and born of the Virgin Mary in time. He has taken our place and gives us His righteousness and innocence.

Holy Trinity is a member congregation of the of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod and the SELC (the former Slovak Synod) District
